Varicose Veins

The Closure Procedure

Varicose Veins are a serious and often painful condition affecting 15 percent of men and 30 percent of women. Typically varicose veins are associated with occupations that require long periods of standing, family history, pregnancy, leg surgery or a leg injury. Symptoms of varicose veins include tired, aching legs, leg swelling and pronounced, bumpy veins.

Two of the surgeons at Surgical Specialists are certified to perform one of the most technologically advanced, minimally invasive procedures to fix varicose veins. The Closure procedure eliminates varicose veins by solving their underlying problem, venous reflux. Using a catheter-based approach, the Closure system delivers radiofrequency energy to the vein wall. Radiofrequency energy creates resistive heating that contracts the vein wall collagen, ultimately eliminating the vein and stopping all reflux of blood into the leg.

Most Closure patients return to their normal activity level within days with minimal pain. Drs. Land and Tsai are two of only three surgeons in Central Oregon currently offering the Closure procedure.
