Laparoscopy is an advanced surgical technique using a telescopic rod with a video camera attached to the end. A surgeon performs the surgery with the aid of the laparoscopic video. Laparoscopic surgeries typically require smaller incisions than traditional surgical procedures. For example, a laparoscopic gallbladder removal requires only four small incisions as opposed to the older method, which required a five to nine inch incision. Laparoscopic surgeries typically have shorter recovery times and cause less pain.
We typically perform most surgeries laparoscopically such as cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), laparoscopic hernia repair, laparoscopic nissen for acid reflux, and laparoscopic colon resections for both benign and cancerous lesions.
